Walking tour: Tales of un-rest, the movers and shakers of the town- Restless Aberystwyth

Amble gentle walk on a level, no steps

Celebratory complimentary soup and roll in the Museum cafe and a chance to discuss and share stories

Real history and discussions

Completely sustainable tour as you would expect from aberdabbadoo.

Aberystwyth seems such a quiet town. Who would have thought that  there has been so many instances of times of un-rest? Your host will reveal tales and historical events when Aberystwyth was not so quiet! Learn about the peace protests, de-bagging, unruly students, Aberytsywth Rag; perhaps you will start to look upon Aberystwyth through a different lens.

Stories link activism with the gain of peace and resolution. You will be introduced to the movers and shakers of the town. Obviously I cannot cover all that has gone on, as it woudl be a very long walk, but I feature many stories, some sad, some happy and some very funny. The walk will last  2 hr 45 minutes and starts at the railway station.  It is a gentle walk, no hills but an opportunity to ask questions and meet each other. Some stories you may know, some you may feel uncomfortable to hear; I use period language and quotes from newspapers.

We will have a mid walk break, with a cahnce to socialie and meet new friends at the Museum Cafe for a wholesome home made soup and a roll (all vegetarian and gluten free) which is included in the cost of the tour.

What role did the current museum play in unrest? Think pea shooters, potatoes and confetti!  This tour has taken 8 months to prepare with many hours feretting in archives. I am excited to launch this new walk as part of my portfolio.

'If you think you know Aber, think again! I joined Alison for her guided walk, Restless Aberystwyth and it was absolutely brilliant. While the town generally feels like a quiet sleepy seaside town, Alison masterfully reveals a much more radical past. She is an amazing story teller with a rare gift for making you feel as though you are living through the events she describes. Her passion for the town's history of peace and activism is infectious, and the stories she shared were informative, deeply moving and thought provoking; it was incredibly powerful, sparking much discussion and leaving me with questions I am still thinking about. It is a fabulous insight into local history that some even long term residents would find interesting.

To top it off, there was a lovely break in the middle for soup and a roll, perfect. Whether you are local or just visiting, don't miss this. Alison doesn't just show you the streets of town, she brings the spirit of the town to life. I highly recommend. it!'
